Differences Between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14

Introduction

The iPhone 14 has been the latest sensation in the market. However, when you look at both iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, you can barely tell the difference between the two. After all, these two versions are not only almost identical at a glance, but they also share the same design and include many similar features.

Therefore, if you already have the iPhone 13, should you upgrade to iPhone 14? Or can you save yourself some money by sticking with your iPhone 13 and still enjoy the same quality features provided by iPhone 14? Considering these 10 main differences between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 will help you decide whether to keep your iPhone 13 or upgrade to the latest version.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Sizes and Screens

Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 feature an OLED screen of 6.1 inches. Both have the same height (5.78 inches) and width (2.82 inches). With a perfect resolution of 2532 × 1170 pixels, the two versions are designed with a ceramic shield front screen and have a body structure made out of aluminum material that is resistant to both water and dust.

The only difference between iPhone 13 and 14 is in their weight and depth. While iPhone 14 has a weight of 6.07 ounces and a thickness of 0.31 inches, the former weighs 6.14 ounces and has a thickness of 0.30 inches.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Emergency Satellite SOS

The Emergency Satellite SOS feature is only available on the iPhone 14. When you buy this latest iPhone version, you are given a free subscription to Apple’s program known as “Emergency SOS via satellite.” This free subscription runs for two years and allows you to send messages to emergency services, regardless of whether you have a cell signal or not.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Colors

When it comes to colors, the iPhone 13 takes the first place since it offers more color options. iPhone 13 is available in six different colors: starlight white, pink, midnight black, green, red, and blue. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 is available in only five colors: red, midnight black, blue, starlight white, and purple.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Camera

Both the iPhone 13 and 14 have three cameras; two high-resolution cameras on the back of the phone and one above the screen for taking selfies. Also, both models have Ultra Wide and Main cameras, each of which has 12 megapixels, a 5x digital zoom, and 2x optical zoom.

When it comes to the camera, the main difference between the two versions is that iPhone 14 has two extra features not included in the iPhone 13; a “Photonic Engine” and an “Action Mode.” The “Photonic Engine” makes photos look crisper while the “Action Mode” stabilizes any shaky videos automatically. Besides the iPhone 14 front camera has an autofocus that allows users to take clearer photos even when capturing subjects who are at different distances.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Display

Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 offer a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. Featuring equal HDR support, the two models look and feel almost exactly the same. However, unlike the iPhone 13, which features the notch, the iPhone 14 Pro is designed with the new Dynamic Island.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Internal Hardware

Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 run using the A15 internal Bionic chip. The chip includes the graphics card, AI neural engine, CPU, and image processor. However, even though both versions run using the same Bionic chip, the iPhone 14 has several slight upgrades.

For example, iPhone 14 features a 5-core GPU; a better upgrade than the 4-core GPU included in iPhone 13. In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max use the A16 Bionic chip. This upgrade improves the quality of videos and games, while also saving up power.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Battery

A test conducted by Apple showed that the iPhone 14 has a longer-lasting battery than its previous version. When both versions are used to play videos constantly, the newer version lasts approximately one hour longer than the older version. This is equal to a battery life of 20 hours for the iPhone 14, as compared to 19 hours for the iPhone 13.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Design

As mentioned at the onset of this article, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 look almost exactly the same. However, the latest version is slightly thicker (by barely an inch) than the iPhone 13. Also, the iPhone 14 is a bit lighter than its predecessor.

Another notable difference between the two versions is that the iPhone 14 lacks any SIM trays in its structure. On the contrary, this modern phone has dual eSIM support in place of physical SIM cards.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Price

The price of an iPhone depends on how much internal storage is included. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 offer three different options for internal storage: 512 GB, 256 GB, and 128 GB. The chart below shows the average price of each iPhone as determined by the storage space.

VariantsiPhone 14iPhone 13
512 GB$1099$999
256 GB$899$799
128 GB$799$699

Generally, the iPhone 14 version costs $100 more than the older version at every price point. However, note that the above prices are exclusive of shipping fees, taxes and other carrier costs.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14: Performance

When it comes to RAM capacity, the iPhone 14 provides a higher performance than the 4 GB RAM included in the iPhone 13. Also, this latest version has a better FaceID response than all its predecessors. However, since both versions use the same A15 Bionic chip, you can expect almost similar performance when using the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.

Conclusion

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 have almost the same features. Therefore, if you already have a well-functional iPhone 13, there is really no big reason to invest in the iPhone 14. However, if your current iPhone is breaking down or has been around for a few years, then you would do well to add that extra $200 and get yourself the iPhone 14. Then, you can get to enjoy the extra features that this latest model has to offer.
